Engraved title with view of Port Jackson (lightly spotted), 65 hand-coloured engraved plates after Sarah Stone (48), E. Kennion and F. P. Nodder. (Plate 7 misbound to face p.240.) Contemporary marbled calf, spine in six compartments with raised bands, red morocco lettering-piece in the second, the others elaborately tooled in gilt with various nautical and military symbols (extremities worn, joints split). Provenance: Charles Montolieu Burges (armorial bookplate).
FIRST EDITION, the list of plates with the second plate correctly paginated. The text leaf with the description of the Wattled Bee-Eater (Hh4) is the second issue, with a short description of the female of the species: as with one of the National Library of Australia copies, cited by Ferguson, the stub of the cancelled leaf is visible.
