A CANTON EXPORT LACQUER BUREAU-CABINET ON STAND
early 19th century
The elaborately carved cresting with scrolls and mythical beasts above a pair of doors decorated with figures within oval panels framed by flower scrolls, opening to reveal several pigeonholes and drawers around a central small mirror, the flat bureau folding forward above a secret compartment concealed by a false front, all supported on four turned legs resting in a base carved with concave sides and an oval centre linked by flowering thistles, some age cracks and minor extremity chips
61½in. (156cm.) high, 26½in. (67cm.) wide, 20in. (51cm.) deep, made in seven separate parts
