A PAIR OF EDO PERIOD EXPORT LACQUER TRAVELLING DESKS
Late 18th Century
Each decorated in gold and iroe hiramakie, kirigane on a roironuri ground, depicting a Chinese pavilion and buildings, a cascade within a mountainous landscape, each with a separate tray for one large and two smaller lidded compartments with two other lidded boxes beneath the tray, the interior of the lid with two square hinged sections for documents, the inside of the lids decorated in gold, silver and iroe hiramakie with similar scenes, the interior with sprays of flowers similarly decorated, engraved metal kanagu, handles and lockplate, slight wear and minor restoration
