A set of fourteen carved giltwood dining chairs, 19th century
Possibly French, in the Regence style, including a pair of armchairs, each shaped back with foliate scroll rococo cresting and ears with trailing foliate scrolls and bellflowers, with trellis panelled surrounds, upholstered in padded silk applique work of interlaced strap-work foliate design, having a stuff-over seat with similar embroidered upholstery, the seat-rail with foliate scroll carved ornament with cabochons, on cabriole legs headed with cabochon ornament and C-scrolls terminating in scroll feet, the side and back of the chairs also carved with incised paterae and scroll-work, the arm chairs with padded outswept scroll arm supports on scrolled uprights (14)
