A Cased 15-Bore French D.B. Pin-Fire Shotgun

Apparently converted from a Béringer patent, with browned twist barrels stamped on the underside of the breeches 'Léopold Bernard Cannonier à Paris' and struck with his marks (Neue Støckel 1233-4), case-hardened matt-grey tang cut with vine leaves and tendrils in low relief on a punched ground, action, mounts, trigger-guard, and signed back-action locks en suite and involving panels engraved with game birds and dogs, all in landscapes, the trigger-guard engraved with owner's initials 'A.R.', for Abel Rainbeaux, figured walnut butt and bar-in-wood fore-end, iron sling mounts and ejector rod, and nearly all its original finish: in original fitted rosewood case lined in tooled plum velvet (some accessories missing), the interior of the lid with stamped and gilt signature, the exterior of the case inlaid with brass stringing and with an elaborately pierced and engraved central panel on the lid, complete with original tooled leather outer cover bearing an old label inscribed 'Mr. Abel Rainbeaux, 54 R. de Ponthieu, Paris'
