A Tournament Or Carousel Lance, And An Italian Partizan
The first 17th or 18th Century, the second early 16th Century
The first of painted wood, the main part of fluted circular section tapering to a tip fitted with a bluntly-pointed thimble-shaped brass (?) cap, swelling at the bottom into a hand-guard before narrowing to form a plain circular-section grip, the underside of the former carved in relief with conventional foliage, and short separate section of similar form to the main one but reversed behind the grip (some wear and bruising to the wood, paint worn); the second with plain blade of elongated triangular shape with a prominent medial ridge between a pair of flutes on each face, upcurved pointed lugs at the base, tapering faceted socket with two side straps (incomplete), and shortened wooden nail-studded staff (old worm holes), possibly original

Lots will be available for collection following transfer to Cadogan Tate from the Monday following the sale and every week-day from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

On the Friday one week after the sale, a transfer and administration charge of £17.50 per lot will be payable and a storage charge of £3.00 per lot per day will then come into effect. These charges are payable to Cadogan Tate and are subject to VAT and an insurance surcharge.

Lot Essay
