An Italian Scale Culet, And Six Elements Of Armour
The first early 17th Century
The first formed as a short slightly flaring half-skirt protecting the lower back and covered with five rows of riveted overlapping rectangular iron plates (some later) with rounded bottom edges and central engraved lines, and riveted leather waist-belt (the leather replaced throughout); the second a right cheek-piece from a 16th Century German closed burgonet, with etched borders; the third and fourth each a plate from an etched 16th Century Italian armour (one cracked and holed); the fifth an etched 16th Century German tasset-lame, probably etched by Jörg Sorg of Augsburg
