The first signed Urquiola, circa 1820, the second by Lewis & Tomes, Birmingham, No. 246, circa 1860
The first converted from miquelet-lock, with two-stage barrel chiselled at the girdle with foliage in low relief on a gilt ground, the octagonal breech with single brass line, and stamped with a cross, three fleurs-de-lys, and the punzón of Urquiola below a spray of silver inlaid foliage, all retaining traces of gold lining, signed lightly engraved flat lock, the hammer chiselled as a serpent, figured walnut three-quarter stock, chequered butt, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard with a further punzón of Urquiola, and original iron ramrod; the second with rifled twist sighted octagonal barrel, signed scroll engraved back-action lock, walnut half-stock, iron and white metal mounts, and later ramrod, Birmingham proof marks
