The first signed Williams, Liverpool, mid-19th Century, the second by William Cole, Belfast, circa 1820
The first with fluted barrel block, scroll engraved white metal action and grip-strap, the former signed and engraved 'J.R. Cooper's Patent.', thumbpiece safety-catch, under-hammer and ring-trigger, and varnished figured walnut grips (varnish worn, iron parts with patches of pitting and discolouration), Birmingham proof marks; the second converted from flintlock, with rebrowned twist sighted barrel engraved 'Belfast' and with two gold breech lines, engraved tang, signed scroll engraved case-hardened lock with safety-catch and stepped tail, figured walnut full stock, chequered butt, engraved silver butt-cap, engraved iron mounts, engraved silver escutcheon, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and later ramrod
