Sandrart, Plusieurs pièces et ornements darquebuzerie...: four plates, and two on one, Nuremberg, n.d.; De Lacollombe, Nouveaux Dessins d'Arquebuseries...: frontispiece and three plates, Paris, 1730; three other earlier plates by De Lacollombe, one dated 1702; N. Guérard, Direrses pièces d'arquebuserie..., two plates, Paris, n.d.; G. de Marteau, Nouveaux Ornemens D'Arquebuseries...: two plates, Paris, dated respectively 1743 and 1744; a contemporary engraving of two Gauvain pistols exhibited at the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1851, one of them one of a pair sold at Christie's East, New York, 17 November 1983, lot 260; a design by J.A.
