The first with earlier two-stage belled brass barrel, the breech section octagonal then polygonal and with a stepped moulding at the rear, iron tang, flat bevelled lock of service type, figured walnut full stock (defective), and brass mounts of service pattern (ramrod replaced, trigger-guard incomplete), indistinct London proof marks and barrelsmith's mark of Edward Nicholson; the second composite and adapted from a brass-mounted musket
