A Pair Of 28-Bore Neapolitan Silver-Mounted Miquelet-Lock Pistols
Signed Ignatius Raneri, first half of the 18th Century
With two-stage barrels each with a ring at the muzzle and stamped signature 'Gio. Batt. Francino.' on the fluted octagonal breech, signed locks engraved with scrollwork and profile bearded human heads, and with chiselled details (ring missing from one jaw-screw, toe missing from one cock), the front of each steel inscribed with the letters 'DBI' (?), or '1731' (?), walnut full stocks (one fore-stock cracked) and ball pommels decorated with silver panels retained by pins and pierced and engraved with flower-heads, scrolls, and foliage, spurred iron trigger-guards (one retaining-pin missing), engraved silver side-plates and fore-end caps, and original iron ramrods each with turned tip (belt hooks removed)
