Three English Bronze Rowel Spurs
The first mid-17th Century, the second and third early 17th Century
The first with slightly downcurved heel-band with figure-eight terminals retaining three iron button strap-attachments, slightly arched neck of medium length, five-pointed star-shaped rowel, and decorated throughout with punched conventional foliage (originally gilt) involving raised oval cartouches on the heel-band bearing male profile busts; the second of characteristic angle-necked form, retaining two strap-attachments, and rowel with five points crocketed at their bases (originally gilt); the last with broad tapering heel-band with figure-eight terminals, plain raised panels on each arm, and retaining the original iron strap-attachments and brass buckle, short flask-shaped neck bent downwards, small multi-pointed iron rowel, and decorated throughout with bands of engraved lines and punched circles
