A Fine Sino-Tibetan Stirrup
17th/18th Century
Of iron, arch-shaped with almost vertical sides, the broad foot-plate comprising an oval ring filled with a solid plate with a geometric central piercing, and rounded rectangular 'staple' for attaching the leather flanked by copper-alloy dragons' heads, the sides pierced and chiselled with elongated dragons holding the sacred jewel in their mouths, the sides of the foot-plate chiselled with running foliage in low relief, and elsewhere engraved with running foliage and four bats
