In 1936 he made the 1st ascent of Nanda Devi with Bill Tilman (described in Tilman's book "The Ascent of Nanda Devi"), a 25,640ft peak [in India] that was to remain the highest mountain yet climbed for 14 years. The windproof suit must have been so efficient that he used it again on Everest 1938 when he reached 25,000ft.' (4)
