Frances, second daughter of the banker Thomas Coutts (1735-1822), was the second wife of John, 1st Marquess of Bute (1744-1814). Sir Thomas Lawrence painted the sitter, as well as her sisters Lady Burdett and Susan, Countess of Guilford.
