Lot Essay

The equestrian statue, errected in the Largo del Gesù Nuovo, in honour of the royal visit, was by Lorenzo Vaccaro, and was considered his masterwork. It was completed in 1705, and destroyed by the mob when the Austrians occupied Naples in 1707.
