Timothy Crusoe (or Cruso) (1656?-1697) was a presbyterian minister who studied for the ministry at Newington Green Academy and settled in London before 1688 at Crutched Friary. He was a distinguished speaker and many of his sermons and funeral addresses were published.
Another plumbago of the sitter also by Forster was sold as part of the Frederick Joachim Collection, part II, Christie's South Kensington, 2 May 1995, lot 86.
