Jim Clendenen, owner and winemaker, is one of California's most energetic and innovative winemakers. A tireless traveller, Clendenen circles the globe promoting California wines, teaching younger winemakers, and learning from his colleagues and predecessors. Clendenen is a specialist in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and is an unabashed admirer of Burgundy. The "Nuits-Blanches" Chardonnay offered below is made in a style inspird by the rare and bold Chardonnays of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. It is vinified in "200 new oak," a technique developed by Dominique Laurent involving racking the wine into a second new oak barrel during aging. This "experimental" wine has become the most sought-after Chardonnay in the Au Bon Climat portfolio. Two vintages are offered below in rare magnum format; total production of the "Nuits-Blanches" is 300 cases. The second wine offered below, "Isabelle" Pinot Noir, is a selection made from Clendenen's finest barrels, and is named after his daughter, born in 1994. Annual production is 200 cases.
