Lot Essay

Lannes was injured during the battle of Essling near Vienna on the 21 April 1809. Napoléon hearing of his friend went to see him and told him 'Lannes, Mon ami, me reconnais-tu?.. C'est l'empereur, c'est Bonaparte...C'est ton ami'. Lannes died soon afterward.
