Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Everett Fahy for the attribution, having examined the picture in the original.

The Master of Borgo alla Collina, named after an altarpiece of 1423 in the town of that name in the Pratomagno, south-east of Florence, was strongly influenced by Gherardo Starnina (Il Maestro del Bambino Vispo), who was one of the most forceful exponents of international gothic taste in Florence, but also worked in Valencia.
