Lot Essay

The Hon. Francis Agar was the younger brother of James, 3rd Earl of Normanton (1818-1896), of Somerley, Hampshire, and it may be that this picture was formerly in the Normanton collection. The picture bears, stamped onto the reverse, an unidentified crest surmounted by a Marquess' coronet.
