Lot Essay

We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD for the attribution. This female still life painter is recorded in Amsterdam in 1660 (see Dr. A. von Wurzbach, Niederlandisches Kunstler-Lexicon, 1963, I, p. 160). Comparable signed pictures by the artist include the pair sold in these Rooms, 4 July 1986, lot 32 (£14,000) and another offered in these Rooms, 17 December 1999, lot 144 as 'follower of Cornelis de Heem'.

This composition derives ultimately from the the picture by Cornelis de Heem sold at Sotheby's, London, 11 December 1996, lot 67.
