Each with a rectangular pierced back with a shaped toprail decorated with acanthus and C-scrolls, above a pierced Gothic and C-scroll vase-shaped splat and a dished padded seat covered in close-nailed ivory coloured velvet, on square chamferred legs joined by an H-shaped stretcher, restorations (2)

Lot Essay

A parlour armchair of this pattern is illustrated in J. Kirk, American Furniture and the British Tradition to 1830, New York, 1982, p. 261, fig. 904.
A set of four dining-chairs also with the same pattern of splat, was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 27 June 1985, lot 89.
