Lot Essay

Grigorii Evseevich Zinov'ev, the pseudonym of Ovshi Gershon Aronovich Radomysl'skii (1883-1936), was born in the Ukraine and became one of Lenin's staunchest collaborators. He was put in charge of the nationalities and to bring the Muslim peoples of central Asia under the wing of the new communist power. Like most of Lenin's comrades, he was purged by Stalin in 1936 and executed.
