Lot Essay

This is probably only the fourth coin of this extremely short ten day reign. Recorded specimens seem to comprise that in the Kyrenia girdle, the one in the Herbert Hunt collection, this coin and a light weight solidus in the British Museum. It should be noted that the specimen illustrated in MIB, taken from a cast in the B.M. is the Hunt specimen.
It is interesting to note that both this and the Hunt coins are struck from clashed dies. There are incuse traces of the first P and the G of PP AVG visible either side of the angel's head on the reverse.
