Lot Essay

Private George Ridge was born in Lancaster and was a servant prior to his enlistment in 1852. He subsequently served with the 17th Lancers as a Hospital Orderly and was awarded the Crimea Medal with four clasps although his name is shown as 'Robert' on the rolls. Ridge was discharged as 'worthless' in 1856.
