Lot Essay

Sergeant Charles Allcock was born in Coventry and originally enlisted in the 15th Foot in November 1867. Transferring to the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade in April of the following year, he was advanced to Corporal in August 1871 and posted to the Gold Coast in November 1873. Subsequently engaged in the Coomassie operations, he returned home in March 1874 and was advanced to Sergeant in February 1878. Allcock was awarded the L.S. and G.C. Medal in May 1886 and finally discharged in November 1888.
