Boatswan John Nelson, S.G.M., was decorated for his services on the occasion of the foundering of the S.S. British King, of Liverpool, 500 miles off America on 11.3.1906. As the Boatswan of the S.S. Bostonian, he would have played a major role in the rescue operations.
