Lot Essay

Seaman George Elliott, S.G.M., was decorated for his services on the occasion of the Schooner The Gay Gordon, of St. John's, Newfoundland, running into difficulties in the North Atlantic on 21.4.1923. Employed as a Seaman in the S.S. Hollinside, Elliott helped man her lifeboat for over an hour in the darkness, wind and rain, and thereby contributed to the rescue of six of The Gay Gordon's crew.
