A Japanese inlaid baluster bronze vase
with pierced foliate rim, decorated in relief in gold, silver and shakudo with a phoenix perched on blossoming branches beneath two scrolling bands of interlocking motifs -- 14½in. (37cm.) high, 9th Century, (small repair to foot rim).
