An interchangeable cylinder musical box on table
No. 25241, with double-spring motor, mandoline expression, zither attachment and four cylinders playing six airs each, in inlaid rosewood case on similar table of Sheraton style with inlay to the breakfront drawer and tapered front legs -- 34½in. (87.5cm.) wide overall, the cylinders 11in. (28cm.)

Lot Essay

The table is, unusually, clearly of English rather than Swiss manufacture, and while the case of the musical box itself is equally clearly Swiss, some modification must have taken place (at least to the lid edges and plinth moulding) to produce such an effective blend of design.
