Lot Essay

Although the reverse of the panel is branded with the coat-of-arms of the city of Antwerp, the export of these panels was not uncommon.

The costume worn by the sitter is that of a Klopje, an unmarried woman who, although not a nun, devoted herself to a strict religious life.
