Lot Essay

For a similar view of the first painting taken from a more distant viewpoint, compare with a painting sold at Christie's, Amsterdam, 13 November 1993, lot 116, as dated 1664 and with another version of that painting, signed and dated, in the Rijksmuseum Twente in Enschede. Both of those pictures have been erroneously identified as Amsterdam Overtoom instead of Maarsen.
