Lot Essay

While Maria Cristina Gozzoli questioned the attribution, loc. cit., on the basis of a photograph, it was endorsed by Egidio Martini,
loc. cit., who compares the painting with the Portrait of Polo Querini in the Pinacoteca Querini Stampalia, Venice, previously attributed to Sebastiano Bombelli (his fig. 109); he tentatively dates both to the beginning of Ghislandi's second Venetian period, c. 1700.
