SOUTH WEST PERSIA, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The blue field with a dense profusion of floral motifs, serrated leaves and perching birds around a column of linked brick-red and ivory stepped lozenges divided by similar smaller stepped panels each containing a turtle-palmette and flanked by delicate floral motifs, the ivory linked, hooked and stepped spandrels similar, in a blue border of meandering hooked vine and stylised flowerheads between shaded red flowerhead, ivory polychrome boteh and multiple floral stripes, chequerboard skirt at each end, minute repair and slight loss at each end
