Lot Essay

Although a native wood to Great Britain, furniture made of solid yew is extremely rare and tends to have been used for furniture of rather unusual design or of the highest quality. Although the 17th Century concept of a gateleg table is often seen in both oak and walnut, it is rare indeed to find a yewwood example.
