English, mid-17th Century
With hinged half round top, above a panelled door applied with and flanked by split mouldings, with canted sides similarly decorated, on turned legs with block feet and square section stretchers, restoration to the apron moulding

Lot Essay

These tables are sometimes referred to as Credence tables, which refers to the table by an alter used for storing the host and communion wine before consecration; indeed many such tables have a canted top. Another related table with a semi-circualar top also almost certainly acquired through the intervention of R.W. Symonds was sold in the Moller Collection at Sotheby's London, 18 November 1993, lot 35.
