The above cap represents the three games played by Geoff Hurst during the historic World Cup Tournament of 1966. In the quarter-final match played on 23rd July 1966 before 90,584 spectators, England defeated Argentina 1-0, with Hurst scoring the only goal of the game. In the semi-final match played on 26th July 1966 before 94,493 spectators, England defeated Portugal 2-1. In the final played on 30th July 1966 before 96,924 spectators, England won the World Cup for the first and so far only time defeating West Germany 4-2 after extra time. Without doubt the man-of-the-match was the hat-trick hero Hurst.
