Provenance
The Strozzi Family, Florence, Italy.
Filippo Strozzi (1428-1491) founded the famous Florentine dynasty of bankers, patrons of the arts and soldiers which bears his name. Filippo's son, another Filippo, was prominent in the revolt which overthrew the Medici in 1527, but was captured and executed by Cosimo I de'Medici, when the latter regained power some years later. Construction of the celebrated Strozzi Palace was begun in 1489 and continued by successive generations of the family.
