Decorated with gilt lines and floral sprays, each with a caned toprail and cross horizontal splats below, the caned seat on ring-turned legs, later decorated, the decoration distressed, some caning replaced and distressed (6)

Lot Essay

An 1801 chair pattern of related form, with painted rather than caned tablet, features in the Estimate Sketch Books of Messrs Gillow of London and Lancaster (see Gillow Chairs and Fashion, exhibition catalogue, Blackburn 1991, pp. 22-3).
