Lot Essay

The table's 'simple' trestles and 'revealed construction' typify the medieval style promoted by A. W. N. Pugin (d. 1852) through publications such as Gothic Furniture of the 15th century, 1835. Such cross-braced trestles featured on Pugin's table designed in the late 1830s for Saint Mary's College, Oscott (P. Atterbury, A. W. N. Pugin, London, 1996, p. 168, fig. 8-10).
