An American applique album quilt
Probably Baltimore, circa 1850
Applied with a harp and dove in pink, inscribed 'Mrs Delsey' within a wreath in green and pink, one corner inscribed 'Mrs Yonst', other names are 'Mrs Braddock', 'Dad Yonst', yet more inscriptions include 'Susan Taylor', 'Jane McCrane', 'Margaret Smith' and a basket inscribed 'Sallie Smith' between arrows, and 'Jane Dean', one basket embroidered A. E. M., one corner S. M. M. and one roundel Mrs M.

Lot Essay

The date of 1847 is recorded on a related flower mosaiced quilt that is wreathed by poetic laurels and bears the signature of Alice A. Ryder of Baltimore (S. Betterton, Quilts and Coverlets in the American Museum in Britain, London, 1997, p. 82).
