Lot Essay

The manufacture of blinds, such as this picture view of Windsor Castle from the Great park, is discussed in Nathaniel Whittock's, The Decorative Painter's and Glazier's Guide, 1827. Amongst London's finest manufacturer of painted blinds at this period was Bridport, decorative painter and paper-hanger of Old Cavendish Street, who advertised 'Transparent Window Blinds' in a wide variety of styles matching wallpaper (discussed in I. Gow, 'Scottish Luminaries', Country Life, 8 June 1989, pp. 298-230.)
