The 'Rubens' frame is likely to have been executed around 1830 for 'The Triumph of Divine Love' tapestry-cartoon, acquired by the connoisseur William Bankes (d. 1855) of Kingston Lacey, Dorset. It was hung at Soughton Hall, Flintshire, which he rebuilt following his return from Italy in 1820. The cartoon formed part of a series discussed in J. Smith, A Catalogue Raisonne, etc., vol. II, 1830 (no. 495). Part of the series was in the collection of Earl Grosvenor (subsequently sold by the Duke of Westminster, Christies, 4 July, 1924).
