Lot Essay

The panels have 'parchment' foldings enriched with vine stems, as can be found on an early 16th century panel and on the panels of a framed chest, presented to the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1921 and 1938 (see C. Tracey, English Medieval Furniture and Woodwork, London, 1988, pl. 113).
