etching, from the series of twelve etchings 'Verscheijde Schepen en Gesichten van Amstelredam', the first state of two, with the number 2, with small margins, watermark foolscap, the upper left corner made up, just into the subject, otherwise in very good condition
130 x 237 mm.; and 'Schol-Schuyties of Pinckies'; 'Haegse, Delfse en Rotterdamse Nacht- Schuyten' and the title page of part three of 'Verscheyden Schepen en Gesichten van Amsterdam...' all etchings by the same hand, mostly trimmed on or just inside the platemark
The present etching is part of a thirty-six series etching of Verscheyde Schepen en Gesichten van Amstelredam which is generally dated to circa 1660. Zeeman published two more series of which eight views of Amsterdam. With the three series Zeeman was the first artist who paid systematically attention to the townviews
