Lot Essay

The present lot was illustrated in the souvenir programme of the 'Testimonial Benefit to Lieutenant Sir Ernest H. Shackleton...Under the auspices of the Bohemian Club and other organisations at the Expedition Auditorium, Civic Center, San Francisco, Thursday Evening, April 19, 1917', p.6.
Shackleton was in San Francisco breifly in 1916 on his way from South America, via the United States, to Wellington and on to relieve his Ross Sea Party.
