William Daniell's journal ends at the beginning of July 1792 when he and his Uncle reached Madurai. The palace, built by Tirumala Nayak in about 1636, was more ruined then than it is today, as Lord Napier when Governor of Madras, commissioned the architect Robert F. Chisholm to carry out extensive restoration.
