A collection of photographic negatives and copy negatives relating to the Rana Court, Nepal, circa 1890s - 1920s

Forty-eight glass-plate negatives, twenty-two 10 x 12 in. (25 x 30 cm.) (one broken), the remainder 6½ x 4¾ in. (16.5 x 12 cm.), one copied from a print by Herzog & Higgins, Mhow with their partial credit in the margin, some with retouching, nine of the larger negatives and one of the smaller negatives mounted in wood frames, the remainder in envelopes with printed credit Ambassade de France au Népal.

The larger negatives comprise portraits of individuals and family groups of the Rana Court including many of children, two of a British military officer with his Nepalese wife and child and four studies of troops. The smaller negatives include individual portraits of members of the court including children, two portraits of an elderly Nepalese man and woman, a seated Nepalese man and another man lying against a tree beside his solar topee and knife, an interior of one of the royal palaces, an elaborate entrance arch, men at work in an interior and a study of a piece of machinery.
